Import Option Types

HMH Import Management allows for the type of import that works best for you and your organization. While the recommended options are to use the OneRoster 1.1 CSV template or the Simple File Format (SFF) template and import a full (snapshot) version of your import file, other options are fully supported as well. Refer to the following table for descriptions of import options.

OneRoster 1.1 CSV

Simple File Format (SFF)

Using OneRoster 1.1 CSV or SFF requires that only active users, active classes, and active enrollments are included for each upload. These templates provide the easiest way to build and process files.

Note: Every OR and SFF import file replaces the last one imported. For example, if you import 500 users today and 15 tomorrow, then that triggers the removal of 485 users. Always submit full files for all locations if using OR or SFF.

Partial (delta)

Traditional
(ThinkCentral and Holt McDougal Online)

Using the traditional ThinkCentral (TC)and Holt McDougal Online (HMO) templates, you can build and import full files on day 1, and then on day 2 you can build and import a file including only those records with changes. Records that did not change remain intact in the database.

In the day 2 file, the record changes may include the following types of entries:

      Inactivate users

      ThinkCentralActive/Inactive field (column R) A = Active, D = Inactive

      Holt McDougal OnlineActivate field (column Q) A = Active, I = Inactive

Note: Typically, these data are tied to a SIS table based on a row status or exit date.

      Move users

ThinkCentralAction field (column A) M = Move (school to school), T = Transfer (class to class)

Holt McDougal OnlineUpdate field (column R) Y = Update to existing account

3

Hybrid

Traditional
(ThinkCentral and Holt McDougal Online)

Using the traditional TC and HMO templates, you can build and import full files, and then include a mix of records with changes. Records that did not change are sent to the database to reset each account to the incoming value. This requires a longer run time and less flexibility to edit within the traditional platforms.

The record changes may include the following types of entries:

      Inactivate users

      ThinkCentralActive/Inactive field (column R) A = Active, D = Inactive

      Holt McDougal OnlineActivate field (column Q) A = Active, I = Inactive

Note: Typically, these data are tied to a SIS table based on a row status or exit date.

      Move users

ThinkCentralAction field (column A) M = Move (school to school), T = Transfer (class to class)

Holt McDougal Online Update field (column R) Y = Update to existing account

4

Full Limited

Traditional
(ThinkCentral and Holt McDougal Online)

Using the traditional TC and HMO templates, you can build and import full data files for each upload. This process adds and updates user records.

To inactivate users, you must use the traditional platforms.

To move or transfer users in ThinkCentral, you must use the ThinkCentral platform.
