Navigate the Dashboard

After logging in to HMH Ed™, the opening page, which is also the Dashboard page, appears. This page offers key information to help you quickly see what you need to know.

Letter A

 Banner Links and Tabs

 

 The links and lists at both ends of the banner are common navigation features available at the top of all pages in Ed.

Ed, the HMH Learning Platform logo link – returns to the Dashboard page from any other page

 

User Menu

Username drop-down list

      Ed Updates – opens the Ed Updates page, which lists current and previous updates to Ed (See View Ed Updates for details.)

      User Profile – opens the My Profile dialog box, which allows you to edit your grade, subject, and program selections for Teacher Success Pathway content (See Edit Your Teacher Pathway Profile for details.)

      Log Out – ends the current session and closes the online learning system

 

 

Help Icon

Help icon

Help (question mark) icon– launches the comprehensive Ed Teacher help system in a new browser tab (See Get Help for details.)

 

 Banner Tabs

 

 The tabs in the banner are common navigation features available near the top of all pages in Ed.

 

Dashboard

Opens the Dashboard page (also the landing page), which offers key information, including important and timely messages and assignments that are due today, need grading, and are past due

 

My Classes

Allows you to create and manage classes and student accounts, select programs for your classes; manage assignments that you have created, and set up and join virtual class sessions. See the following topics for further details:

Discover

      Opens the Discover – HMH Resources page, which allows you to select programs, view content, see standards, and open resources; opening resources allows you to assign content to students and select content for your customized lessons. (See Navigate the Discover Page for details.)

      Provides access to the My Stuff page, which allows you to create, store, and access customized lessons and assessments (My Lessons and My Assessments) as well as view and access lessons shared with you by other users (See Create Lessons and Create Custom Assessments for details.)

 

Reports

Opens the Reports page, which allows you to view a series of prebuilt reports that provide quick access to critical information and provide instruction (See Navigate the Reports Page for details.)

 

Teacher's Corner

Offers a variety of teacher resources specific to the class and grade that you are teaching (See Navigate the Teacher's Corner Page for details.)

 

 System Alert

 

System Alert

If Ed has any service or feature degradations or interruptions, a System Alert message appears at the top of the Dashboard, just below the banner tabs. The message will provide the details you need to know regarding any issue.

Letter B

 Teacher Success Pathway

 

The Teacher Success Pathway provides training pathway items for programs that you selected in your teacher profile when you logged in to Ed at the start of the school year. Items for the selected program are displayed as topic cards showing the title, item type, and duration. The type of items differ by program and may include live events, videos, sample lesson plans, interactive sessions, and so on.

      If necessary, use the arrows to view additional items.

      In the View other programs list, you can select a different program. The items in this area will update to display the training pathway items for that program.

      To open the full Training Success Pathway page and begin a training path, click the View button in any topic card.

 Selected Programs and Recently Viewed Resources

 

Selected Programs for My Classes

Selected Programs for My Classes widget

In this Selected Programs widget, the programs that you have selected for your classes display as individual program cards in the order of the programs most recently viewed. Up to six program cards are stored for you in this area.

    Within each program card, do any of the following:

      Click the program title link to open this program in your Discover page.

 

      If available, click the My Favorites button to open your My Favorites area of this program; this page stores program resources that have been previously saved as favorites and allows you to find and view these resources.

 

      If available, click the Last Viewed link. This link allows you to return to the exact location that you most recently opened within this program (for example, opened a module/unit or lesson, or a product category, or a standard), effectively enabling you to pick up where you left off.

 

 

Recently Viewed Resources

Recently Viewed tray

The Recently Viewed Resources widget provides the resource cards for the most recent resources that you have opened, allowing you easy access to content that you may still be using. Up to six resource cards are stored for you in this area.

    Click a resource card in the Recently Viewed Resources area to open it.

 

The resources that appear in this area are synchronized across Ed and HMH Go™ (the HMH offline app). For example, if you open resources while working in Ed and later open HMH Go™, those same resources will appear in the HMH Go™ Recently Viewed area.

My Classes, My Lessons, and My Favorites

 

My Classes, My Lessons, and My Favorites widgets

My Classes

The My Classes widget displays a list of your classes in alphanumeric order.

    Click a class name link to open a page on your My Classes tab. The page that opens depends on whether you have associated programs with the class, as follows:

      If you have linked programs to the selected class, your Assignments Overview page appears. See Manage Assignments for details.

      If you have not linked any programs to the selected class, your Program Settings page appears. You can select programs on this page to associate with the class. See Manage Programs for Classes for details.

 

My Lessons

The My Lessons widget displays a list of your six most recently used custom lessons and shows the number of resources included in each custom lesson. Custom lessons that you have recently created, viewed, or added appear in this list.

    Click a lesson name link to open your My Lessons page. See About My Lessons for details.

 

My Favorites

The My Favorites widget displays a list of the six resources that you most recently added as favorites. See Add Resources to My Favorites for details.

    Click a favorite link to open that resource.

Letter E

 Assignments Overview

 

In the Assignments Overview area, you are alerted to assignments that are due today, need grading, and are past due. This allows you to quickly assess what work your students and classes currently need to complete and what work is awaiting your actions.

Within each category, separate assignment boxes display for each assignment, showing the assignment resource-type icon, the assignment title, the class name, the assignment due date, and the number of students whose assignments are due today, need grading, or are overdue (depending on the category).

    For any assignment listed, click the arrow in the assignment box to open the Assignment Details page for that assignment. (See Manage Assignments for details.)

Further details for each category are provided below.

 

Due Today

Due Today boxThis box lists the assignments across all your classes that are due today.

The Total Pending number displays in the top right corner of the box; this is the total count of students with assignments due today.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Need Grading

Needs Grading boxThis box lists the assignments across all your classes that have been submitted and are ready to be graded; this includes only assignments that are manually graded by the teacher.

The Total Submissions number displays in the top right corner of the box; this is the total count of students who have submitted assignments that are ready to be graded.

Note:

Assignments can display in this box and in the Due Today or Overdue box, depending on the due date.

Only ungraded assignments that are not more than 20 days past the due date are listed here. To view and grade assignments that are more than 20 days past the due date, you must use the Assignments pages. (See Manually Score an Assignment for details.)

 

Overdue

Overdue boxThis box lists the assignments for all your classes that are past the due date by no more than 20 days in the past and still have student(s) who have not submitted.

The Total Outstanding number displays in the top right corner of the box; this is the total count of students who have overdue assignments (of 20 days or fewer).

To view and manage assignments that are more than 20 days late, you must use the Assignments pages. (See Manage Assignments for details.)

Letter F

 Your Messages

 

Your Messages

The Your Messages area provides important information for you, including recommended actions, new features, and other program-related news. If you have no messages, the Your Messages area does not appear on your Dashboard. See below for details about some of the common categories of messages.

 

      Add Programs to Your Classes Message

If you have no programs associated with any of your classes, a message appears at the top of Your Messages list reminding you that you need to do that. This message remains until you have associated programs with at least one of your classes.

    Click Go to My Classes to open that page and select your class programs. (See Manage Programs for Classes for details.)

 

      Growth Measure Testing Window and Reports Messages

If your organization offers growth measure learning programs, then you are able to assign growth measure assessments to your classes within the preset date ranges, also known as testing windows. Your Messages includes alerts to let you know when a testing window is approaching, when a testing window is open, and also when student results are available for a growth measure assessment.

This message appears when the next growth measure test window period is set to begin within 14 days. The message remains in Your Messages until the test window period is open.

    Click Read More to learn more growth measures. (See About Growth Measures for more information.)

 

      Growth Measure Assessment Window Open

Open Testing Window message

This message appears when a growth measure test window period is currently open and the assessment is available to be assigned. Once you have assigned the growth measure assessment, this message is automatically removed from your list of messages.

    Click Get Started to open the Growth Measure resource page to assign this assessment. (See Assign Growth Measure Assessments for details.)

 

      Growth Report Available

Report Results Available message

This message appears when a at least one student's results are available in a growth report.

    Click View Report to open the Growth Report page. (See Open Growth Reports for details.)

When you are done viewing the message, click Dismiss to remove it from Your Messages. If you do not click Dismiss, the message displays for 14 days and then is automatically removed from your list of messages.

 

      HMH Promotions and Professional Learning Messages

Many messages are informative alerts regarding new features, promotions, new professional learning offerings, or other updates. These messages may be time-sensitive and offer links to additional information. They appear after any class set up or growth measure messages and are listed by date provided with most recent dates appearing first.

    Click Read More to view additional details about the message, and when you are done viewing the message, click Dismiss to remove it from Your Messages.

If you do not click Dismiss, the message displays for 14 days and then is automatically removed from your list of messages.

 

Letter G

Resource Center

 

The Resource Center icon is available to teachers and administrators in the lower right corner of most Ed pages.

      Click the icon to open the Resource Center, which offers any or all of the following options:

 

Resource Center list of options

      How-To Guides – activates step-by-step tips that appear on your page to walk you through a task or key feature

 

      Video Based Training – lists any relevant training videos available that provide information about the open page

 

      Recommended Help Links – provides links to relevant help topics based on the page you are viewing

 

      Feedback – opens a dialog box in which you can provide feedback on the platform or programs
